Reducing duration of granting for work permit and criminal record in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

On 07 October 2020, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Justice (“DOJ”) and Ho Chi Minh City Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (“DOLISA”) held a signing ceremony on this matter.

Accordingly, the two departments signed the joint plan to reduce the duration to grant for work permits and criminal records. This plan is the execution of Decision No. 16/2020/QD-UBND of People’s Committee dated 07 July 2020 on the joint implementation of group procedures for issuance of work permits and criminal records to foreigners working in Ho Chi Minh City area. Previously, it took 20 working days for such foreigners to get those documents after successfully submitting the dossiers. By now, DOLISA shall be the initial authority to receive the application dossier. Then, DOLISA shall hand over such dossier to DOJ for the next stage within 01 days from the date of full submission from applicants. After 15 working days, DOJ shall deliver the criminal record of applicants to DOLISA, and DOLISA shall issue 2 documents to applicants. Duration of obtaining both work permit and criminal record in Ho Chi Minh City is maximum 17 working days.

In summary, the joint plan of DOLISA and DOJ shall help to reduce the administrative procedure for foreigners. It also helps save their time and cost for the obtaining of work permit and criminal record.
